Experienced Systems and Network Administrator
The Berndt Group, an expert web development and hosting company, is seeking to hire a highly experienced network and systems administrator to be a part of a talented technical team that hosts and produces a wide range of web applications and award-winning web sites at Baltimore's oldest, and multi-award-winning web developer.
The applicant must have a strong background in Linux and Windows administration to help manage our network of production web servers, development servers, LAN (Windows, Macintosh and Linux) workstations and Web applications.
The candidate must be meticulous, hard working, able to multi task, good communication skills and have strong problem solving skills and a high level of maturity. Successful candidates must work respectfully in a group environment and manage their time efficiently, as well as be willing to support servers and networks occasionally after hours.
Previous work experience and strong references are more important to us than certifications.
Applicants must:
- possess strong time-management, organizational, communication, documentation and problem-solving skills
- be able to multi-task and manage multiple systems’ projects simultaneously
- be extremely process-oriented and be able to think through all contingencies before beginning a task/project (seeing the big picture and consequences of action as well as the details)
- have (3-5) years experience as a Sys/Net Admin in a Linux/Windows Environment
- be skilled and productive in a Linux command line environment
- be expert in managing and troubleshooting all common networking issues
- be expert in managing Apache, IIS, PostFix, MySQL and MS SQL Server
- be fluent in at least one programming/scripting language (Python preferred)
- have a working knowledge of what server-side (ASP.NET, VB/ASP, etc.) and client-side (HTML, JavaScript, etc.) web technologies are and related concepts
The person who is awarded the position will be responsible for:
- reporting to department director and managing junior system/network administrator
- completing long-term infrastructure projects on-schedule
- supporting development servers in a fast-paced environment
- maintaining existing systems and implementing new technologies
