Berndt Group Exhibits at Gilbane Content Management Conference

December 10, 2008

BALTIMORE, MD—The Berndt Group, a Baltimore, MD-based full service interactive agency, was happy to have the chance to present best practices for web site and Content Management Systems (CMS) to our colleagues, CMS partners and potential clients at the fifth annual Gilbane conference in Boston.

This year's theme was "Where Content Management Meets Social Media." The conference focused on strategies to move beyond the mainstream content technologies we may all be used to, to enhanced "2.0" versions.

The Gilbane conference is an opportunity for web industry professionals to gather and exchange information on content management best practices, from vendor selection to implementation. What are the successful combinations of web content management, enterprise search, text analytics, social computing, infrastructure, etc. The Berndt Group was able to dialog with the rest of the commercial and open source CMS/web community about emerging best practices and to catch up with our CMS partners like Crown Peak Technologies, RedDot, Percussion, SDL Tridion, Ektron, and others. As regular contributors to the CMS Watch reports, it’s also a good opportunity for The Berndt Group to keep our fingers on the pulse of new products in the CMS market.

John Berndt, CEO, commented, "We've been very pleased to take an increasing role in the discussions about CMS best practices in the last two years, and the Gilbane conference has been a great place to present our ideas. It's also a wonderful venue for CMS vendors, developers, and clients to discuss all of the issues associated with large, high content web sites."

The Berndt Group's focus is on all of the issues associated with large, high content web sites. We are very involved with and active in the CMS best practices community. Specific areas of strength for The Berndt Group:

  • Web site Strategy We bring an unusual level of maturity and intelligence to our clients' real business problems, in relation to areas such as approach to market and brand management; audience segmentation and behavior; and Web Operations Management (WOM), to name a few.
  • User Experience We solve the pressing problems of organizations through a combination of organic methods, with a focus on best practices such as memorable, rich online experiences to fullfill business goals; user-focused labeling; hierarchies of attention; context indication, "conversion funnels;" and search, personalization and other contextual delivery methods.
  • Vendor Neutral Content Management System (CMS) Selection While we are partners with many CMS vendors, we do vendor neutral CMS selection for our clients - we match the right product with the right client, for the job at hand. We are also looking to select a product with sustainablility and flexibility, to grow with the client.
  • CMS Best Practices and Implementation Working as architects and implementers, and closely researching the products we work with, we show clients how to get the most out of their web site platforms, by providing services such as requirements gathering; implementation prototyping; content analysis and content object modeling; metadata taxonomy creation; and related links and content re-usage strategies, to touch on some of the high levels of process.
  • Internet Marketing A major aspect of our holistic approach to web development is to integrate with and anticipate how to align a client's Internet strategy with a myriad of activities that attract customers, including natural search engine ranking optimization (SEO) and keyword strategy; customer behavior and web usage analytics; and Customer Relations Management (CRM).
  • Web site Governance We work with our clients to setup good governance (vital to the success of a CMS implementation), including defining organizational web charters, budgets and staffing; educating clients on how to build ongoing structures to keep web site content fresh; helping clients clarify staff roles and responsibilities; clarifying ROI calculation; and creating style guides and governance policies.
